Welcome to Milton-Freewater, Oregon!
Milton-Freewater is a small community in a region offering a rural lifestyle with close access to larger cities and the amenities they offer. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, outdoor recreational sports draw a number of visitors to the area to enjoy hiking, skiing, snowmobiling and camping. As well as the mountains being only minutes away, the Walla Walla, Columbia and Snake rivers are also in close proximity for a variety of water sports and fishing adventures.
Known for its' rich soil and temperate climate, agriculture thrives in this rural community. Orchards, vineyards, blueberries, dryland and irrigated crops offer a spectacular landscape as crops are harvested and seasons change. Local wineries offer a unique experience and welcome visitors throughout the year with special tastings and tours. Many service clubs and organizations along with the Milton-Freewater Area Chamber of Commerce sponsor and host a variety of community events each year. In February, the Chamber's Annual Awards Banquet is a unique event where local businesses cleverly decorate tables to the delight of attendees and offer an evening of special memories as local citizens are honored for their year's of volunteer services. Two festivals can be enjoyed during the summer months. Carvin' in the Blues, a chainsaw carving competition held in July, finds amateur & professional carvers competing for prizes & bragging rights. The Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival is held on the 3rd full week-end of August in the city's beautiful Yantis Park. This community festival encompasses everything this small town offers. A variety of vendors, a Talent of the Valley Competition, Kid Zone, Friday and Saturday Night concerts and the famous corn roast/watermelon feed, round out three days of family fun. On the first Friday evening in December, "Christmas Magic" fills the air. The Bright Lights Parade is a crowd pleaser as it travels from Henry's Ace Hardware to the end of North Main where Santa will direct the lighting of the tree. Children can sit on Santa's lap as caroller's perform and refreshments are enjoyed.
